The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)
Current Digital SAT Format (as of December 2025)
The test is multistage adaptive: Each section has two modules. Performance on the first module determines the difficulty of the second (easier or harder), allowing for more precise scoring.
Total duration: About 2 hours 14 minutes (plus a 10-minute break).
Sections:
Reading and Writing (combined into one section): 2 modules, 54 questions total (27 per module). Time: 64 minutes (32 minutes per module). Covers shorter passages with one question each, focusing on craft and structure, information and ideas, standard English conventions, and expression of ideas.
Math: 2 modules, 44 questions total (22 per module). Time: 70 minutes (35 minutes per module). Covers algebra, advanced math, problem-solving and data analysis, geometry and trigonometry. An embedded Desmos graphing calculator is available throughout (or students can bring approved calculators).
